Two Koi, a traditional Japanese and fusion restaurant, is situated in one of downtown Tacoma’s historical districts. BCRA was employed to work with the client on the tenant improvement and interior design for the restaurant and local hot spot.
The tenant improvement proved to be challenging, as the restaurant is located in the lowest floor of the Carlton Center, built in 1909. The architects and interior designers were limited with placement of walls, seating and kitchen equipment -- all of the elements necessary to make a functional restaurant. Venting kitchen equipment was challenging to achieve within the existing window openings, which could not be changed. All of these challenges affected the final design of the space. Additionally, the bottom floor of the building was the former elevator lobby for the entire building. Reconfiguring the former lobby space to feel warm and inviting was a challenge for both the architects and the interior designers.
This restaurant is the first of its kind for the owners and both wanted to be very involved in all aspects of this project. BCRA worked with both owners on the initial design to ensure all of their visions were incorporated.

BCRA designed the 250 acre South
Kitsap Regional Park, which became
a first to pursue a Sustainable Sites
Initiative designation.
