The Gig Harbor community wanted a YMCA facility that would serve all members of the family, from infants to older adults. BCRA worked in tandem with senior staff to uncover the business strategy that would allow this to happen and influence how we approached design. Our Architecture + Interior Spaces team toured several university athletic facilities and conducted community surveys for inspiration.
Visibility was a main theme. The running track is situated around the perimeter of the facility. The design maximizes efficiency of staff with strategic site lines, and features a café, chapel, MultiCare medical clinic, teen areas, daycare and a natatorium with saunas, steam rooms, shallow entry pools and water slides. In addition, BCRA assisted the client to identify funding opportunities. This included a grant for community projects that use sustainable design concepts.
