Located near heavy industrial areas, the City of Fife envisioned a park that could provide a pleasant visual break from the industry and a space for residents to enjoy passive recreation opportunities. BCRA was eager to take on the challenge of integrating land use needs and leisure space. Members of our Planning + Resource Management team led the public on an evening walk of the site, and conducted intimate discussions with stakeholders to understand the historical premise and future vision. Bringing both interests together, designers worked closely to research Japanese open spaces and how they might translate into a suburban American park, which could reflect the history and ownership of the site.
Brookville Gardens is now the result of deep collaboration between all four of BCRA’s discipline groups. The design is completely integrated and includes rain gardens, green roofs, educational signage and branding. The City of Fife plans to use the park educationally, as well as a living design standard for future developers in the area.

BCRA designed the 250 acre South
Kitsap Regional Park, which became
a first to pursue a Sustainable Sites
Initiative designation.
